National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Data Dashboard

The mission of the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa (NPA), guided by the Constitution, is to ensure justice for the victims of crime by prosecuting without fear, favour and prejudice and, by working with their partners and the public, to solve and prevent crime.

The National Prosecuting Authority has the power to institute and conduct criminal proceedings on behalf of the state, carry out any necessary functions incidental to instituting and conducting such criminal proceedings and discontinue criminal proceedings.

The NPA completes an annual report that contains statistics related to the court cases undertaken during the year as well as comparisons to previous years.

The NPA annual reports contain valuable data related to gender-based violence and femicide from Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCCs).

Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCCs) are one-stop facilities introduced as a critical part of South Africa’s anti-rape strategy, aiming to reduce secondary victimisation and build a case ready for successful prosecution. Fifty-one centres have been established since 2006 in an attempted to make the centres accessible to all South Africans who need TCC related services.
